about

Sued Nandayapa Bergmann Saunders play original music and interact fearlessly. They like to make things up. Each member brings considerable experience as an improviser, a composer, a producer, and a traveler. The group first played together during the summer of 2018. Their first album was released in fall 2019 and celebrated with a series of concerts in Mexico and Texas, during which they recorded their second album, which will be released in October 2020 on Ropeadope Sur.

Saxophonist Natalio Sued, from Argentina, and bassist Andrew Bergmann, from Massachusetts, met in 2000 while both studying in the Netherlands at the Amsterdam Conservatory. They would play together in various bands, including Bergmann's 10-piece original jazz-rock project Ghorar Deem Express. Later (after Bergmann had moved back to the US) drummer Gustavo Nandayapa came to Amsterdam to study at the Conservatory and began his own collaboration with Sued, a relationship that further blossomed once Nandayapa had moved home to become one of Mexico's most sought-after drummers and Sued began to visit Mexico City and contribute to its remarkable jazz scene. Guitarist Bruce Saunders, a professor at the Berklee School of Music and the University of Texas in Austin, began playing with Bergmann about 10 years ago. While bouncing endlessly between Brooklyn, Boston and Austin, Saunders has performed with a myriad of fantastic jazz artists, including all-time greats such as Jack DeJohnette, Dave Holland, and Bill Stewart.
